The call for abstracts is now open for the 16th European Congress of Chemical Engineering and 9th European Congress of Applied Biotechnology (ECCE/ECAB 2027), taking place at the EICC in Edinburgh from 13 to 16 September 2027.

Europe’s flagship chemical and biochemical engineering congress will bring together researchers, industrial practitioners, innovators, policymakers and emerging professionals to tackle the scientific, industrial and workforce challenges shaping the next decade.

Contributions are invited across seven themes:

• Circular (Bio) Economy: from closed-loop manufacturing to waste-to-resource technologies

• Digitalisation and Data: AI, digital twins, automation and digital trust

• Energy and the Energy Transition: hydrogen, carbon capture and industrial decarbonisation

• Food and Drink: alternative proteins, bioprocessing and low waste manufacturing

• Fundamentals of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering: the foundational research that underpins innovation

• Health, Biopharma and Medicine: biomanufacturing, cell and gene therapy production, and real-time quality control

• Skills and Future Competencies: the people, learning models and policy shaping the profession

Organisers welcome original research, industrial case studies, cross-sector collaborations, emerging concepts and contributions on education, policy and societal engagement. Strong submissions will show technical rigour, real-world relevance and a clear link to sustainability and societal value.

Accepted contributors will present to a Europe-wide audience, with the chance to connect with leading experts and decision-makers, take part in high-profile plenary and keynote sessions, and showcase their work in the exhibition and poster hall. An Early Career programme will also give emerging engineers the opportunity to build connections with peers from across Europe and develop key professional skills.

Abstracts should be submitted through the online submission platform by 25 January 2027, with all submissions reviewed by the Scientific Committee.
